Clear Skies Begin with a Healthy Check-up

Ensure you’re ready for takeoff with a thorough medical check-up designed for leisure pilots. A leisure pilot Medical check-up is a vital step in ensuring you're fit for flight. Your health is key to safe and enjoyable flying. Get checked, get cleared, and get ready for takeoff. Prioritize your health and fly with confidence. The superstition that pilots must be 100% healthy is a relic of the past.

The medical assessment for the leisure pilot is called Medical Class 2 or LAPL medical certificate depending on the leisure pilot licence you are aiming for.
If you are still in doubt, we can tell you that people with impaired color vision or a cardio stimulator have already sucessfully undergone an aviation medical examination for the leisure pilot. So don't worry ;)

Your Journey Begins with Knowledge.

The Private Pilot Theory is a critical component of the training process for obtaining a Private Pilot License (PPL). It provides the foundational knowledge needed to safely operate an aircraft and understand the rules and principles of aviation. While the actual flying skills are developed through hands-on flight training, the theory aspect ensures that a pilot is prepared for safe and effective decision-making during all phases of flight

The common requirements for both LAPL and PPL pilot licences are sharing the same theoretical knowledge syllabi and learning objectives. The minimum teaching time is around 100 hours, which are well distributed around the general aviation subjects as well as the aeroplane - specific and piston engine-specific knowledge. Theoretical knowledge instruction is completed by either the virtual class room, real class room, selfstudy or individually.

Building Skills for Safe and Smooth Flights

The basic pilot skills are not just for beginners—they’re the foundation of being a competent pilot. Regular practice, continual learning, and a commitment to safety are key to maintaining and improving these skills over time.

The leisure pilot training is so-called skill-based training. Pilot skills are developed during flight training and are essential for both the initial stages of becoming a pilot and for ongoing proficiency throughout a pilot's career. Mastering these skills ensures that a pilot can handle various flight conditions, manage the aircraft, and make safe, informed decisions.

The basic pilot skills covering:

  • take-off and landing
  • climbing, descending, straight and level flight
  • turns with various bank angle 15 - 45 degrees
  • engine failure at various positions such as downwind, after take-off
  • aerodynamic stall recognition, recovery and flight at critically low airspeeds

From Student to Solo: The Sky is Yours!

The first solo flight is a thrilling, unforgettable experience. It's a significant accomplishment in a student pilot’s journey, showing that they are on the right path toward becoming a licensed private pilot. The student walks away from that flight with more confidence in their abilities and a greater appreciation for the responsibilities of flying.  It's a symbol of the student's competence and confidence, and it represents a crucial step toward obtaining a Private Pilot License (PPL) or LAPL.

Don't worry, we won't let you kill yourself :) At least two independent instructors should agree that you can handle the solo flight and one of them has to sign you off for the solo flight.

Navigate the Skies, Discover New Horizons

Leisure pilot navigation is all about the freedom to explore new destinations, refine your flying skills, and enjoy the beauty of flight while confidently managing your route. It involves using traditional navigation methods, like maps and compasses, as well as modern tools like GPS and flight planning apps. Whether you're flying cross-country or exploring scenic local routes, strong navigation skills ensure you can reach your destination safely and efficiently. Key aspects of leisure pilot navigation  include:

  • Route Planning : Learning to read charts, calculating distances, and considering weather conditions to determine the best flight path.
  • Navigational Aids : Familiarizing yourself with VOR (VHF Omnidirectional Range), GPS, and other navigation systems that help keep you on course.
  • Visual Flight Rules (VFR) : Navigating based on visual references, such as landmarks and terrain, which is a core part of leisure flying.
  • Flight Logs & Checkpoints : Keeping track of progress during the flight, ensuring you're on track, and making adjustments when needed.

You are a licenced pilot, now!

The leisure pilot theory exam (often referred to as the Private Pilot written test) is designed to assess your understanding of the theoretical aspects of flying, which are crucial for ensuring safety, proficiency, and good decision-making during flight. The written exam usually consists of multiple-choice questions, and in some regions, you may also be required to complete oral and written exams with a designated examiner.

Upon completion of your written test, you need to pass the practical test so-called  license skill test  with a  Flight Examiner . The PPL / LAPL skill test  takes approximately 90 minutes and contains the profile of all exercises you have been trained during your  leisure pilot training . Flight Examiner  will ensure that during your leisure pilot training  you gained all the skills required to become a leisure pilot .
The skill test  consists of navigation flight, piloting technique (turns, slips, flight at minimum speeds, stalls), take-off and landing technique, including emergency procedures with simulated engine failure.
